The Hall Center is an integrated healing and medical practice in Santa Monica, CA. They needed a website that would convey their message of alternative healing while maintaining the serene, Balinese-influenced arcitecture of the center. They also wanted an online store to compliment their brick-and-mortar store, so clients could order vitamin refills, and other products, over the Internet.

The website look and feel was key. It needed to give a taste of what the center had to offer spiritually, which is difficult to do given the limitations of the web. To this end, a great deal of time was spent choosing the color palette and the layout of the pages. The bamboo images and feeling of movement reflect the sense one feels when in the physical center.

To keep the site fresh, we implemented a content management system allowing the doctors to post articles, news stories, health quizzes and other material. The quizzes are particularly interesting. Covering a wide range of health issues, the interactive quizzes allow visitors to "test" their well-being by answering questions about their symptoms. The quiz automatically grades itself, and then recommends a course of action to the visitor. These quizzes have resulted in several new patients for the center.

The online store was another important facet of development. The center already had a physical store and wanted to expand business onto the web. It was important that the online store be easy to use and easy to update. It was also important that orders placed online be fulfilled and shipped as quickly as possible with a minimum of administrative overhead.

After installing a robust e-commerce engine, we developed a custom solution to print out packing slips automatically after an order was placed. With no intervention by the store staff, a dedicated computer would print a packing slip in the store and update the customer's order status. When the order shipped, the store manager could approve the credit card charge with the click of a button. This approach provides significant cost savings and reduces fulfillment errors.

As an ongoing client, The Hall Center is considering the development of a custom online appointment system to integrate with their website and back-office scheduling software. Heston Liebowitz Design is the developer of choice for this next step.
